Republicans must choose to get rid of a disease...

...or choose to let it spread into an epidemic?

They have the antidote to make our country healthy again. But, if they use the antidote, they may lose their political power?

They understand the threat of the disease. But, they don't think they will ever suffer from the disease. Only their enemies will get sick.

If they do not use their antidote, the entire country will become very sick. It could be fatal for our democracy.

And, until recently, no one on this side seemed to think it was a big deal.

That they can control the disease and that the epidemic won't get out of control.

Bad assumption.

Good Post.

we have been headed down this path since the Reagan admin.

They finally elected an amoral ideologue to make their fascist dreams come true.

Congress will cease to be what it has always been, a separate co-equal branch of government.

The Constitution will be burned. Along with the Declaration of Independence. Forget the Bill of Rights.

Statues commemorating the Founding Fathers and our Nation's history will be chiseled down to dust.

243 years of history wiped away by a power hungry maniac. The United States of America will become a country more severe and dystopian as during the Third Reich and Soviet Russia.

Why assume that the problems are something they would want to cure or avoid? I have posted before about the potential reasons behind the actions of the GOP these days. They are forcing relevance and now poised to resort to grabbing for power and that has some background.

What seems more obvious is that they are allying themselves to turning the executive branch of our government into an authoritarian, possibly permanent position as per the long-run. They are playing checkers and the idea is to get trump to the other side of the board, so to speak, and then say, "King me!"

This has been a slow, but evident, weakening and destruction process. The public is being conditioned to accept this and repetition is normalizing it. That's how things seem to work these days with news cycles and mass media.

If this continues, it may even come to the point of military intervention. I would not have said that publicly a while back, but the dots connect and I don't like being sensationalist or alarmist.
