3. Flu viruses stop their outbreaks in the spring as people are outside more

and the air takes the flu away from us and each other. So predictable that if you kept people inside like sardines it would spread. There is very little outside on a cruise ship. People are getting less than an hour a day outside time. But they have to walk down long enclosed hallways to get outside. Better to put them on an island where they can get away from each other and be outdoors. Even if that meant tents and cots. Japanese army could roll that out in a few days. Australians are putting people on an island i think. I wonder what their infection rate will be.

It rolled on relentlessly.

If this virus does as well, it’s gonna be a rough ride.

so they got on boats and headed everywhere. A parade would be a bad idea in an outbreak too. Or any organized group activity like war.

disease than gunshot wounds or injuries.

Many of them never even made it to the front lines or battles, because they died early in training camps from measles, mumps, dysentery and influenza rampant in the crowded camps. Lack of hygiene and modern sanitation were also factors.

It was a real tragedy since many of them were young, healthy and straight from farms and rural areas in Ohio and Michigan where they had never been exposed to those diseases.

say this is the crucial week for whether it has been stopped from being an epidemic worldwide. Those poor cruise ship passengers numbers do not bode well.

Everybody tried to do as much as they could outside. Classrooms, barber shops, etc. They also had signs posted to stop spitting and cover your mouth when you cough/sneeze. This seems common practice now but it was new back then.

Phila was hit really hard, especially after a big parade spread the bacteria. Practically the whole city shut down. I guess they didn't figure that even an outside event could be dangerous. Within 5 days it was spread all over the city and 12,000 people died.

8. Parade is a bad idea when there is an epidemic. Too many people too close together.

Don't believe cruise ships have HEPA air handler filtration like hospitals and airliners. I recall some have had this problem before, perhaps with with other viruses.

I feel they're lucky to be in port in Japan, where they have good knowledge and resources on communicable disease. Could be at a much, much worse location.

14. Nature is more powerful than mankind

It is only a matter of time before we have a repeat of a past worldwide disease outbreak that kills hundreds of thousands or more. We are long overdue for such a tragedy. We have had a good run. As much as we know, there is still so much we don’t know and can’t stop even with our best efforts. The forces of nature are more powerful than us.

I would hate to be on that ship.
