Gestapo or SS?
I wish I was better at history.

(42,642 posts)the SS were eventually indoctrinated into a strange form of faux Teutonic paganism, so fundie Xians would be verboten and the Gestapo were secret police who shunned the limelight.

(16,046 posts)You know...the Brownshirts, only in this case led by Moscow Mitch!
Rohm, thought that his friendship with Hitler would save him, in the same way that Mitch believes that his alliance with Trump will keep him rolling in the money and in power...but just like Rohm, Mitch will have a "come to Jesus" moment...and he along with his "SA" Republicans will come to the same end.
There will be a "Night of the Long Knives" for Mitch, Lindsey, and Nunes...and it will be Barr giving each of them the pistol with a single bullet!!!

(14,732 posts)absolute determination to do whatever is necessary to obtain and exercise extreme power. In addition, they are absolutely convinced that they are the ubermenschen adrift in a sea of human flotsam that must be dealt with "severely" and who exist at all only so long as they can serve their masters.

In any case, Republicans remind me of any and all authoritarian dictatorships. They have at least some tactics in common with all of them, because they are using tactics from so many different authoritarian dictatorships. All of the above is probably the best answer.

The Republicans are hardly secretive about what they are up to. On the contrary, they are so in-your-face, it's incredible anyone could ever be unclear about their goals.
The loyal fanatics of the SS (Schutzstaffel) were willing, brutal true believers. The name, sort of a "protective brigade," was originally due to the core being a protective guard for NSDAP party gatherings. The expanse into a feared military machine came later on. It would appear the Republicans are headed on this direction, especially with the gun-fetish of some of them taking on fanatic overtones, but they're not there yet.
If anything, I see parallels to the cult of Jim Jones, the "reverend" who led his followers to mass suicide.
