And what keeps getting right wing extremists elected. The tRump presidency is as much the fault of faux news as it is the fault of the russians, and our slack election system in the USA.

Time of Useful Consciousness explains monetized mass propaganda and its impact - now more than a century in action...

Alex Carey said that the people of the US have been subjected to an unparalleled, expensive, 3/4 century long propaganda effort designed to expand corporate rights by undermining democracy and destroying the unions. Carey’s unique view of US history goes back to World War I and ends with the Reagan era.

And Part the 2nd:

Thus capitalism triumphs and the rich get richer, while socialism and democracy vanish down the Memory Hole.

The communist scare of the 1950’s for socialism. The inequalities of race politics forever for fascism.

it's probably the case that since the military draft ended in 1973 many young people like Dump and his base knew they would never have to serve or sacrifice anything for their country. They could focus all their time and energy on one thing: making money. Government and its regulations and taxes just got in the way of their greed. When government becomes the "enemy" to growing numbers of voters trying to become billionaires as it has at least since Reagan, Dump or somebody like him with little or no understanding or appreciation for the role of government is probably inevitable.

"Let the market decide." Everything.
