Tennessee doctor got his GOP rep to overrule CDC & repatriate infected cruise ship passengers.

This is how California got infected with Covid-19, and why we have a Covid-19 infected California woman who never left California fighting for her life now at a California hospital. As Rachel Maddow mentioned tonight, a Covid-19 infected Tennessee doctor from the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan got his GOP Representative to pull strings in the Trump administration to overrule the CDC & repatriate the infected passengers. The CDC wanted the Covid-19 positive passengers to stay in Japan, and only have passengers who tested negative be repatriated. Trump's State Department ultimately overruled the CDC.

Tennessee doctor sparked evacuation from cruise ship

A Tennessee doctor with a friend in Congress was instrumental in bringing home hundreds of Americans who were stuck in Asia on a coronavirus-laden cruise ship, according to a new report detailing the government decision to evacuate the ship.

Dr. Arnold Hopland, who runs a clinic in Elizabethton, remains quarantined in Japan with his wife, Jeanie, who has tested positive for coronavirus. The couple were passengers on the Diamond Princess, a cruise ship where about 3,700 people were quarantined in their cabins for weeks as the infection spread.

While Hopland remains in Asia, his calls to Tennessee Rep. Phil Roe appear to be at least partially responsible for the decision to rescue other Americans from the ship. Hopland, who is friends with Roe, detailed the deteriorating conditions on the ship to the congressman, who then pushed the State Department to bring the travelers home.

In the end, Hopland's details and Roe's urging prompted officials to finally evacuate the ship, according to a deeply-soudeeply-sourced report by The Washington Post. "That tipped the balance," an unnamed senior administration official told the Post.

https://www.columbiadailyherald.com/news/20200222/tennessee-doctor-sparked-evacuation-from-cruise-ship

Then Trump's HHS sent unprotected, untrained HHS employees to greet these 14 infected evacuees. Trump had disbanded the pandemic response team. These HHS employees were not quarantined and mingled in the community surrounding Travis Air Force Base in California where the evacuees were supposedly quarantined. At least one HHS staffer stayed at a local hotel and left on a commercial air liner. About 10 days after the infected evacuees arrived, the woman from the area came down with Covid-19 and checked herself into a local hospital 10 miles from Travis.

It is now in our communities, thanks to a Tennessee doctor who had GOP connections strong enough to overrule the CDC. Then Trump's HHS and State Department made things worse by accepting the evacuees in the most incompetent, unsafe way possible.

Never mind the stock market, people will die because of this. And my beautiful state is now ground zero, thanks to Republicans.

The problem is that you and I and everyone else who works for a living is invisible and expendable to this gang of idiotic bidnessmen. They will never consider anyone's well being but their own.

Let's hope this put paid to the fantasy that government should be run like a business.

in despair. Trump has weakened the government to the point where it no longer functions. Filled with incompetent toadies, sycophants and unqualified lackeys, this is the results we can expect from now on.

The of these two Republicans should become the topic of nightly news. Trump must be held accountable for putting his ass kissing cronies in charge of State instead of professionals who would stand up to pressure and safeguard the country.

WASHINGTON — Representative Phil Roe, Republican of Tennessee, announced on Friday that he would not seek a seventh term in 2020, becoming the first lawmaker this year to join the exodus of Republican lawmakers opting not to run for re-election as their party eyes another tough campaign cycle.

“As someone who practiced medicine for over 30 years, I said I would serve five or six terms because I never intended this job to be a second career,” Mr. Roe said in a statement. “After prayerful consideration, I have decided to retire at the end of the 116th Congress.”

Mr. Roe’s district, which Mr. Trump won by 57 points in 2016, is expected to remain firmly in Republican control.

Solano County is home to Travis Air Force Base, where many travelers have been quarantined. But this patient became ill before the arrival of the passengers of the virus-stricken Diamond Princess cruise ship.

Turns out, it's a woman, and she spent eleven days in a Vacaville hospital, and it appears she wasn't in isolation! It wasn't until her condition went south and she was transferred the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento where she was tested for coronavirus.

Eleven days! And there's no way of telling how many people she came into casual contact with!

Coronavirus: Infected Solano County patient wasn’t tested for 11 days

Only 200 test kits are available in California. Gov. Newsom promised on Thursday that more are on the way. Officials worried the virus is spreading through the community, but testing systems are far behind

February 27, 2020 at 11:21 a.m. | UPDATED: February 27, 2020 at 11:26 a.m.
A Solano County woman now critically ill with coronavirus was hospitalized for 11 days before her infection was revealed to healthcare workers, raising the potential of broader community exposure to the dangerous respiratory disease.

Suffering from flu-like symptoms, the patient brought herself to the 50-bed NorthBay VacaValley Hospital in Vacaville on Feb. 15, according to the Washington Post. She was transferred to UC Davis for advanced care four days later, on Feb. 19.

Suspecting coronavirus, UC Davis requested a test upon her arrival. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control conducted the test four days later, on Sunday, Feb. 23. Results were not returned until Wednesday, Feb. 26, according to a UC Davis statement.

Faced with the prospect of community spread of the disease, expanded testing is essential, said Gov. Gavin Newsom at a Thursday morning briefing in Sacramento.

Travis AFB officials said Monday that 171 individuals made up the newest group of coronavirus evacuees at the base. The group of 171 people does not include those who previously arrived Feb. 5 and Feb. 7 at the base from the Wuhan area of China where the new coronavirus — officially named COVID-19 — is believed to have originated.

I seem to remember hearing something about this location too.

Edit: I just Googled it and was correct.

"Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is one of four military bases that have been chosen to house up to 1,000 people who may require quarantine for coronavirus following travel in China."
"The other bases are Travis Air Force Base in Northern California; the 168th Regiment, Regional Training Institute, in Fort Carson, CO; and Lackland Air Force Base in Texas."

20. Rachel Maddow said something today that I had said to a friend this afternoon
Fri Feb 28, 2020, 01:47 AM
Feb 2020

All the "incompetence" almost seems as if it was done on purpose, if you look at the sequence of actions:
1. get the people from the boat down to the land
2. place them in a hospital that has not been properly guarded for them to be in a secure quarantine
3. bring people from the government to "welcome" them, these people are not trained to handle infected people or set with special clothe or equipment to protect themselves
4. then let all these government people back with other civilians, one of them stays at a hotel and then flies back on a commercial airline.

What could go wrong?

It is either one of the highest demonstrations of incompetence, or it was competently done on purpose. With this administration it is hard to believe only one theory because they have shown time and again how evil they are, how putrid their souls and minds are which makes it hard to doubt that evil has thought out of some sinister action without considering the consequences. I could not tell what the goal would be, only they would know.

This book is being discussed, I am sure the author will start selling many copies now, maybe due for a re-print.

Dean Kootz "The Eyes of Darkness"
[link:https://nypost.com/2020/02/27/did-a-1981-dean-koontz-novel-predict-the-coronavirus/|

It really is not important if Kootz predicted this epidemic or not, there are people who say he did and some that he did not, but that is meaningless. What is important is the way he describes it, and the reason for it...The reason for it is...it is a weapon, and if that were true it is a very effective one that is bringing World markets down, not that the USA economy wasn't going to go down anyway thanks to "tax cuts" an other stupidities from this administration, but this is definitely accelerating it, and going beyond the USA.

https://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/ny-rush-limbaugh-smoking-effects-cancer-diagnosis-20200203-4ma66mowazektovzh7hg2aynhq-story.html

<<“That [harm caused by secondhand smoke] is a myth. That has been disproven at the World Health Organization and the report was suppressed,” Limbaugh claimed. “There is no fatality whatsoever. There’s no even major sickness component associated with secondhand smoke. It may irritate you, and you may not like it, but it will not make you sick, and it will not kill you.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 2,500,000 nonsmokers have died from health problems caused by exposure to secondhand smoke since 1964.

Limbaugh went on to claim “firsthand smoke” isn’t that serious either. “Firsthand smoke takes 50 years to kill people, if it does,” he said. “Not everybody that smokes gets cancer. Now, it’s true that everybody who smokes dies, but so does everyone who eats carrots.”

Limbaugh went on to ask why the government didn’t ban tobacco if it was so dangerous before claiming the society had vilified smokers, even though “their purchases are funding children’s health care programs.”

“I would like a medal for smoking cigars, is what I’m saying,” Limbaugh added.>>
