Feds Tell Ex-NFL Star to Stop Saying His Weed Can Cure Coronavirus

Former NFL offensive tackle Kyle Turley said his Neuro XPF cannabis could “crush corona.” The FDA and FTC have some concerns.

The federal government is warning a former National Football League player to stop advertising his medicinal cannabis products as treatments for the novel coronavirus.

The Federal Trade Commission and the Food and Drug Administration sent a warning letter to that effect on Tuesday to the Las Vegas headquarters of Neuro XPF, which is owned by former NFL offensive tackle Kyle Turley. Turley insists that CBD, a popular cannabis derivative, can cure the coronavirus.

In fact, Neuro XPF had an entire page of its website, headlined “CRUSH CORONA,” devoted to those claims. “Your best defense against the COVID-19 blitz starts with a strong immune system,” the page claimed, and “a growing body of scientific evidence shows that CBD can help keep your immune system at the top of its game.”

“We want everyone to take CBD and take advantage of its potential to help prepare your body to fight a coronavirus infection,” Neuro XPF said. “So, we’re making all of our products more affordable.”

CBD kills viruses. In which universe?
There's limited data that it's antimicrobial to fungus & some bacteria. I found zero info with regard to any efficacy on viruses.
Chemically, it's too benign to affect a non-respirating form. There are no highly reactive sites to denature the protein or cleave the nucleic acids in the RNA.
And, viruses aren't really alive except when they're exploiting living cells to reproduce.
So, exactly what mechanism suggests this dumb idea would work?

It lacks the psychotropic effects, which is why regulations around it are so lax.
We're a pit legal state, but still can be sold only at licensed dispensaries. They sell CBD at the freakin' gas station.
And it could hurt if people use it thinking they're immune and quit taking proper precautions protecting others.
