Trump is searching for a favorable narrative instead of leading through this crisis.

Like a stand up comic, he uses these daily briefings to workshop his material. He's trotted out one failed favorable narrative after another. Downplay it. Then say it's just like the flu. Blame Obama. Say it will wash over. The cure is worse than the disease. Call it the Chinese virus. We will open for Easter, and it will be beautiful. Blame Obama. Blame impeachment. Blame hospitals. Blame the states. Change topics by talking about the drug war.

Every day is a search for some narrative that will boost his election prospects instead of doing the work to lead the country. Every speaker has to praise him profusely instead of giving Americans the basic facts that they have to follow to protect themselve. Things like demand all states to issue shelter in place laws. Suspend all debt payments for 90 days which will include rents. Force companies to produce ventilators and protective equipment.

We are literally on our own through this crisis. If we even manage to get to the fall election, and if this country votes this clown back into office after this, I cannot live in this country.

That’s how he comports himself. “I don’t know much about models; well, THESE kinds of models...”, “The State Department, or as I like to call it, the DEEP State Department...”

Etc. Etc. He needs a rim shot drum guy on stage behind him...

He is alone in the woods with both feet caught in a bear trap.

And he is trying to talk his way out of the situation.

Remember, he only has empathy for himself, no one else. Even as the body count starts to spike, he will still try to put a positive spin on this. He will distract. He will evade. He may even launch a military strike against Iran.

He will do everything and anything to spin this in his favor.

against the numbers of the dead.

Too stupid to understand you can’t fall behind when dealing against a virus. It doesn’t play a con mans game.

Might be too stupid to understand he can’t beat the numbers. Wait until the red states burst, and they will shortly. He will be ignored, and he will be laughed at, through our tears.

Is a leader, who:
1. Can lead.
2. Take this seriously.
3. Delegates to competent people.
4. Can get things done.
5. Pays attention to detail, and acts ahead of time.
6. Cares more about your average person in the street than his re-election chances.
7. Can talk seriously, accurately and comprehensively about the severity of the pandemic.
8. Give people courage to fend for themselves and protect heir own health.

Trump rates a solid ZERO on those points.

Trump is desperately looking for some magic cure, and his safe word at the moment is 'hydroxychloroquine'.
(Tomorrow it will be a different safe word. Stirred in with some vague blame shifting, words to minimize the severity, etc.)

There must be a magic cure, surely? There just has to be! His precious re-election chances are at stake here, and a country full of dead people doesn't look good for that. /sarcasm

Trump is focused on . . . .Trump.

Urban centers are blue. He uses false information to get people to ignore warnings and uses the power of his office to deny or divert needed medical equipment.

Yes, this is insane. See trump.
