'Take this seriously': Southeast may see severe storms and tornadoes on Easter Sunday

Severe thunderstorms, fed by warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, are expected to pound Texas on Saturday and begin pushing eastward, setting up the likelihood of damaging hail, winds and tornadoes for a large part of the Southeast by Easter.

The storm system is then expected to push up the Atlantic coast on Monday.

Forecasters are particularly concerned about the prospect of tornadoes staying on the ground for several minutes in the Deep South on Sunday.

“This could be one of our bigger events we’ve had in a long time around here. Take this seriously,” weather service forecaster Gary Goggins said in a public briefing broadcast on Facebook Live from the agency’s Birmingham-area office on Saturday.

Maybe they should take it as a sign from God and stay home.
