NBC legal analyst reveals Trump’s Fauci frustration: Federal workers can only be fired ‘for cause’
Published 14 mins ago on April 13, 2020By David Edwards

NBC legal correspondent Pete Williams reported on Monday that it won’t be easy for President Donald Trump to fire the federal government’s top infectious disease expert.

The question about whether Trump can oust Dr. Anthony Fauci surfaced after the president retweeted a “#FireFauci” hashtag.

According to Williams, Fauci is not a political appointee so he can only be fired “for cause.”

I think they were or did do that with some of the national parks or some big group and moved them out of DC and out to SD or places like that. It was last year and really don't remember much about it.

Put them in a nondescript building across the street from the Time/Life building in an empty office with a phone and a phone book.
No contact with them at all but he would keep them on the payroll. Eventually they all did quit but I wonder how long the longest one stayed?

to an obscure office in Fairbanks Alaska.

We had a civil servant, nice guy... but essentially useless, who was allowed to retire in place. And much like the character in a movie, his desk was moved to shipping and receiving where he served out the remainder of his career.

Sometimes it was actually kind of benevolent when it was someone who’d been there a long time and they were close to retirement age. But more often it was someone so worthless that they couldn’t even pawn them off on another agency.

It doesn't matter how many laws exist that in ordinary times under a normal president, would have protected Fauci. Trump will find a way to silence him.

He might be effectively gagged if his attendance at key committees is revoked, or he's not allowed access to any other govt agencies, professional colleagues, scientific studies, the latest data coming in from So. Korea, etc.

Knowing Trump from his past performances in retaliating against those who have stood against him or simply told the truth. Trump will want to see Fauci humiliated and embarrassed, so he will attempt to destroy his profession career and diminish his respect as a global expert. What better way to hamstring a scientist than assign him to a job like counting hospital masks in some cavernous warehouse where he'll never be heard from again.

You see Trump following that rule, or anyone in the Republican majority of the Senate holding him to it? Trump doesn't like a rule or a law, he just ignores it, and dares anyone to hold him to it. Mostly they don't, and he gets away with it again and again.

He also needs to do it before he gets fired by the American people for cause. Then we can re-hire the people that he fired and send Trump off to prison where he belongs. Thank you, now I'm going to hop on my unicorn and ride off into the sunset. This COVID thing is causing me to drink during the day.

The highly-respected and credible 79-year-old Dr. Fauci doesn't strike me as someone all that worried about his career. He's already all over the evening cable shows, so I doubt he'll go quietly. Trump better heed the advice of Don Corleone, "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer."
