Here we go again. Watching the media cover the sporadic, small protests in certain states, we are once again witnessing the normalization of right wing extremism which is now the core philosophy of the Republican party.
We are in this situation because we keep relying on custom instead of critical, objective thinking. Custom dictates that we be open-minded and respectful to people who disagree with us, which is a noble custom. However, we should not be forced to respect or give audience to those opinions that are in direct conflict to human life.
Objective, critical base thinking says that we should listen to accumulated evidence and facts and use that knowledge to decide the best course of action. The best course of action is to test everyone to gauge the full extent of the spread ot the virus. Once that information is known proceed from there.
These protestors want our government to "open" which will kill hundreds of thousands of us. These protestors should not be normalized. They should be called out for the extremists that they are, and the president should be damned and shamed for openly supporting them.
We need to stop overly relying on custom. Our lives depend on it.

(22,285 posts)Key point - these people expect someone else to give their life by suffocating to death so they can go to the beach and play

(33,643 posts)I think you've identified the underlying issue, at least as far as the protesters go.
They don't DO evidence and facts.
What the rest of the world calls 'Facts' ... they've assessed to actually be the deceptions of the devil, witchcraft, skulduggery, and/or assorted wacky conspiracies and what-have-you's ...

(20,544 posts)That is child abuse in action. Exposing children to a lethal virus is end stage child abuse. Now it is normal?

(4,358 posts)What pisses me off is that the 100,000 people I marched with in DC to protest the Iraq war got a 15 second mention on national news while handfuls of these assholes are on for extended segments every other night.
The mainstream media may want us to gawk at these morons, but they're giving them more airtime than people who have actual justifiable arguments.
