Wendy is a first generation American, the proud daughter of Mexican immigrant parents who came here to pursue the American dream. Wendy is originally from Monterey Park, California. Her parents worked hard for their family, and her dad eventually built up a successful small business in the garment industry.
Wendy is one of five children. Growing up, her family didnt have a lot of money, but her parents always instilled in their children the value of work ethic and taught them to appreciate the many opportunities this country provides. In school, Wendy was part of English Language Learner and free and reduced lunch programs. Having access to these programs and a quality public education, along with the opportunities her parents worked to give her, set Wendy up for success.
After high school, Wendy attended California State Polytechnic University of Pomona. At the same time, Wendy went to work for her dad as he started up his small business. As the company grew, Wendy decided to take a break from school. She worked at the family business for ten years and helped her dad grow it into a success.
Wendy moved to Reno in 2006 after meeting her future husband, Adam, a police officer at the Reno Police Department. They were married in 2009. Wendy has worked for the Washoe County Assessors office for 13 years as everything from an office assistant to an appraiser. During that time, she went back to school and graduated from University of Nevada, Reno in 2011. She currently works as an Appraiser III, valuing all real and personal property for the county.
Wendy is an active member of the Reno community, volunteering her time with the Ronald McDonald House and helping local churches feed the homeless.
