Morning Joe had a statistic this morning which said only 40% of the population knows someone who has had the virus. I believe that will be changing because it was also discussed that places like Iowa. Mo. Tennessee, Texas, Charlotte are starting to spike. It's spreading beyond the coasts now, so I wonder what the thinking will be in a month.

As long as the admin keeps 'othering' the victims- older Americans, black Americans, Indian Americans, other Americans, the weird brain wiring that let us leave African famine victims and Bangladeshi victims has a chance.
Fuckers.
Better get busy evolving. Myself included.

(25,750 posts)Given that those getting it and those dying tend to be concentrated in various places, it would be fairly easy to be somewhere that hasn't been too affected.
We think my niece may have had it back in March, as she did have symptoms, and had been on a trip to California a week or so before she got sick. But she wasn't tested, heck I'm not sure we even had tests available then.
It's possible people I know who I haven't been in touch with have been sick.

(14,848 posts)I don't personally know anyone that was infected, and there's not many cases in my area given the population.
It will change, however. I've seen too many people nonchalantly ignoring masks and social distancing here.
If they spent more time studying the science, maybe their "show me" attitudes would change too?

(35,141 posts)The better an area does at following the stay at home order the lower the numbers
But when numbers stay low more people think it's an over-reaction and start going out

(35,454 posts)But as I said up-thread, do they think the number of deaths is made up?
