Two maps from the "Wild West" of Wisconsin and a cold, cold, cold hearted calculation.

Covid cases:

2016 election results by county:

The former map is likely to change because of the "Free Dumb" lawsuit.

Before the lockdown was invalidated by the Republican court, the number of cases in Wisconsin was 11,685, with 484 deaths, a death rate of 3.8%.

For people over 50, including my fellow baby boomers who love to congratulate themselves on saving the world, although they didn't, the number of cases in Wisconsin was 4,941. The overwhelming number of deaths was in people in this group, 425, giving a death toll of 8.6%.

Baby boomers are, despite how we congratulate ourselves on all of "our" liberal accomplishments, the demographic with the strongest support for the incompetent uneducated racist orange nightmare in the White House.

Trump won Wisconsin with a margin of about 22,000 votes. If 50% of those 22,000 were over 50 - this is a wild guess about the wild west - the number of cases required to halve Trump's margin, by resulting in the deaths of Trump voters over 50, is around 128,000 Covid patients over the age of 50.

We should assume that the majority of the people now partying in bars are Republicans, the "Free Dumb" crowd.

It is not likely that Wisconsin's voting will change entirely as a result of deaths by stupidity. On the other hand, deaths by stupidity certainly not going to help Republicans. It is also true that many patients who do not die will be nevertheless severely disabled. You never know, there may be some "Free Dumb" rednecks who will feel guilty for having killed grandma and grandpa in order to get a haircut and a beer.

They might stay home in the election or even change their vote.

He is definitely high risk. He's fat, he's old, and he's stupid.

11. Yes, but the statistic that really counts is the cases per hundred thousand.

Green Bay is pretty red.

The ratio of population of Milwaukee to Green Bay is roughly 6:1. Therefore for the same rate, Milwaukee's circle should have an area six times that of Green Bay.

It doesn't.

The suburban population of the Milwaukee area, all in shades of red, actually approximates or nearly exceeds the population of the city itself; the city being the only blue area. Red Waskesha County has 2/3 the population of the city. Dark red Washington county has a population about 1/6 of the city. Red Racine County to the South of Milwaukee has a third as large as the city. Kenosha County is 1/4 the size of Milwaukee.

Note this map shows Wisconsin before the rednecks exploded into the bars and other festivals of stupidity. An interesting thing is that alcohol impedes judgement, and given that these people already lacked judgement, before heading into bars and drinking, means there is going to be some Darwinian selection pressure here.

It would not surprise me if this selection pressure converts a State that voted for Obama twice back into a blue state.

Similar effects are likely elsewhere.

I am sure, for example, that retired baby boomers play a huge role in Florida politics. Given that the death rate for people my age is higher than that for the population as a whole, and that retirees often depend on service workers, some of whom may be rednecks or around rednecks, the overall effect on the demographics as a whole does not favor Republicans, given that Republicans have decided to worship an illiterate fool.

I am not wishing for old people to die, of course, but the situation is now rather like a hurricane. Those who can hunker down, do. Those who refuse to hunker down out an idiot's sense of bravado will pay the consequences.

I can't imagine any Democrat with a lick of sense is out playing at the beach right now. I think the republicans will be hit fairly hard by the virus. I don't feel sorry for anyone who thinks it's okay to go out like nothing's happening.

This assumes that they can feel empathy, an emotion totally lacking in their hero in the WH. When it comes to choosing between the well-being of their kids and a night at their neighborhood bar, the brew house wins every time.
