So I put on my big girl's panties, took out my best scissor's and got to work......cutting off clumps of hair so bangs not hanging in my eyes, shortened the sides of my hair so it was above my ears, and trimmed the back so it was not hanging on my neck. And you know what......it looks damn good!

I typically have a pretty straight forward white guy parted go to work cut. My hair grows out not down. Giant hair helmet. So far its going pretty well. I am really liking the longer curly hair. My wife loves it.

(6,110 posts)It is very easy to do your own hair cut. It is quick, no chance of acquiring virus or dandruff from equipment used on other people,
and costs almost nothing. It takes me may be all of 15 minutes every 2 to 3 weeks. I have been doing this for 45 years!

(64,427 posts)My ponytail is now 8 inches long. Doesn't really matter.
I always wear my hair slicked back, tied back, so it doesn't really look different.
Some day, I'll get it professionally neatened, but there's no rush.
My wife, on the other hand is stressing the gray roots. What can one do, though?

(16,254 posts)My hair has now grown out enough that the curlers work and it looks pretty good.
Yesterday, I got a call from my long-time beauty shop owner. She said they were opening, next week, and asked if I wanted an appointment. I was surprised that I actually said no. She said about 50% of her clients were saying they didn't feel safe to return yet. I figure it only takes one time and after investing 15 weeks in staying at home, I don't think I want to take a chance.
I'll wait and see how others going back to work turns out and if there is a surge in cases because of it.

(51,432 posts)when I got an "Edie" cut trimmed by the barber who cut James Dean's hair. I thought that was a good thing. He cut my bangs so short that they didn't go down on my forehead, they stuck straight out like a visor on a cap. It was worse than Mamie Eisenhower bangs. Fortunately I got pneumonia the next week and could stay home while it grew out a little.
I have had pixies, shags and bobs and I do it all with a tiny compact mirror and side bathroom mirror. I do it dry and know my cowlicks by now. I use sense of touch more than sight. I can feel (not see) how long one side is compared to the rest and it works. Then I use the mirrors for fine touch ups.

(16,820 posts)I like my hair short, though, so it's easy to cut. I just can't see myself spending $20 every few weeks for something that's so quick and easy for me to do myself.

(4,600 posts)"You look like a ragamuffin!" I'm 70 and don't have a lot of hair left but did a quick self-trim at the 2-month point and it's not entirely horrible (top and sides). I just had scissors, no clippers, so the back is definitely scraggly ragamuffin territory. If I get self-conscious I just put on a baseball cap which hides a multitude of sins.

(15,805 posts)Haven't been off the homestead since March 3 so a hair cut is an obvious necessity. I usually wear a shoulder length Bob, but I can't do that myself.
I'm really thinking about a very short Pixie cut that I think I could manage with electric clippers if I buy a new set for people and leave the doggy model alone

(31,484 posts)Luckily, I've never colored my hair because I'm too lazy to keep up with the roots, so I don't have an issue there. It will be a while before I feel comfortable going to a salon.
