1. So "Space Force" is taking over for NASA? Why are they doing research & experiment missions?
I honestly discounted this all as a Trump PR campaign, but really. Are they trying to do away with NASA?

6. I guess he sees nasa as "deep state."
if he gets a 2nd term, I suppose all agencies will be eliminated and remade in his image.

10. They are trying to militarize
the program. There was a time when we thought that the militarizing of space was a bad thing, but Trump is willing to boldly go where no one has gone before. It is short sighted, stupid and will lead to a new arms race, that we can not afford, at a time when we are using the Russian's rockets to put our people in space. How smart is that?

11. NASA will stay
The US military has depended on space-based assets for decades, and have struggled to coordinate development and procurement between the services. Proposals to create a stand-alone organization to manage these assets have been floating around for years but turf wars between the services have always killed them. The original proposal was to create a new branch of service that would be equal to the Army, Air Force and Navy - the compromise was to create the Space Force within the AF. To a certain extent all they did was consolidate all the units dealing with space assets into a central organization.
I’m not sure why everyone is mocking this move because all it does is recognize how important space is to the military. We’re not talking astronauts and flying saucers - we’re talking about operating and protecting reconnaissance, communications and GPS satellites. |

13. They were already "protecting" assets. Now they are militariizing space--yet another "arms" race
I realize some want to find SOMETHING to defend Trump about, but this is a blatant and poorly thought out PR campaign in my and many other's opinions.

14. No - they are actually privatizing space
Hence the efforts of Elon Musk and Bezos. SpaceX (a commercial company), will be flying a manned space flight later this month. There are fortunes to be made in space and the corporations will not allow the military to monopolize access to the planets and stars.

12. Space Force was the existing Air Force Space Command ... it appears, for the
most part, it's simply a new label ... 'cause ya' know, Trump and his ego!

survivable at that speed, is it?

8. Trump can always be known
as the original space cadet.
Maybe the new arm can study the vast vacuum of space between Trump's ears. I also have a use for the hyper-sonic missile that Trump has been bragging about, but I will not mention it in polite company. |

15. Can we point this out
While Trump likes to blame Obama for lack of pandemic supplies, let’s point out he was building the ridiculous space force that will do nothing
