I understand NASCAR started live driving on the track today at Darlington
my question is.........Why wasn't there any protester demanding to be let into the stands to watch the race............

2. I just think of the irony of the situation, they storm everything else,
ranting about opening everything up, I look at it as a double standard, and yes most of the teams are run by republicans..............

5. Actually, they are. I'm not sure about the pit crews, though.

6. We don't want Lightning McQueen to get sick!
But you're right about the pit crews. They work hard in close quarters.

7. They do have helmets on that cover their entire head, so I guess they may be ok.

10. Pit crews are helmeted now.
Many drivers use air filtered, and fed to the helmet - similar to cpap

12. If you ain't rubbing' you ain't racin'
I used to be a moderate fan of NASCAR. 25-30 years ago. Still like auto racing. But don’t have the time. Life gets full.

13. I was being totally facetious here!
But I've always been a car buff. Even owned a 356 bathtub Porsche in my youth. Fun car.

14. Oh, I got you meaning. Was sending you the same!
Most fun car I ever owned was an 82 VW Scirocco. Had the same engine as Some of the shitty Porsche 914s. Weighed like 1600 lbs and had rack and pinion steering. Turned on a dime and caught rubber even going into second gear.
One of my frat brothers who drove a late 70s firebird borrowed it to make a beer run. Came back and said he has never driven a car like that! Even my roommate who had the coolest car of the era, a Datsun Z280 said my car was more fun to drive. Funny story. Like all VWs of that era it had a shitty electrical system. When a poor new employee dating my current wife 33 years ago I would stay at her condo and overnight the battery would die. I was poor! So I just parked on a very slight incline. Every morning at 4:30 going to work I would turn on the keys, put it in N, and push that SOB from the drivers door. Jump in a pop the clutch and off I went! Looking back it seems crazy. But hell, I was 22. If I had a dollar for every time I regretted selling it I could retire! Have a nice evening |

15. I almost bought a Scirocco!
I liked the green color. The checkerboard upholstery not so much. Ended up with an Audi Fox.
Have a nice evening too! |

16. 1982 Scirocco weighed around 2100 lbs
Also the Porsche 914 had the flat 4 cylinder air cooled engine used in the old VW Bus. The Scirocco had the 1.8 liter water cooled inline 4 same as the VW Rabbit.

17. LOL! I knew the minute I posted this almost 40 year old memory I was gonna get fact checked!
I hope, and assume you knew this and did not look it up. I thought about asking Mr. Google before posting, but really did not care. And it does nothing to my narrative. Which all 38 year old stories are at the end of the day.
That burnt orange Scirocco was the most fun vehicle I have ever driven in my life. And I have driven some way more expensive and powerful vehicles since then. At my age not sure I want a vehicle without power steering. But it was great then. You have a nice evening and good week. PS. Are you still into cars? Assuming the wife and I get off furlough and are earning money I’m thinking about a Kia Stinger. Was all in on getting an Audi. But the maintenance cost is nuts. And the whole status thing bothers me. And I’ve always gone against the grain. They seem like real sleeper cars. |

9. Nobody at the front gate.
Most race day fans are there for the party, and it takes an army of cops, traffic control, parking, concessions, security, sanitation, and cleaners to keep the herd moving, without stampedes.
Any "protesters" would have to get past the cops at the main road, and walk a mile or 3 across empty lots, to no audience. |
