That's just plain assault.

they have to eventually check back in at their posts, and their injuries are most likely covered by workers' comp or similar insurance. The demonstrators are on their own after they disperse, so unless their injuries are severe enough to require a trip to the ER they're unlikely to be counted - or even noticed.

to ignore any injured protester. Just report on arrests. That way police are good guys being injured by the bad criminal protesters.
