Portland (oregon) police chief steps aside, asks lieutenant to become chief.

She only held the job for not quite 6 months.

Not yet six months into her job as chief, Jami Resch is stepping down from leading the Portland Police Bureau.

Resch announced that she asked Chuck Lovell, an African American lieutenant, to serve as the next chief of police. She said she considered the community’s needs and believes the change is what’s necessary.

"I have asked Chuck Lovell to step into the role as chief of the Police Bureau,'' she said at a noon news conference. "He’s the exact right person at the exact right moment.''

The previous police chief let things fester by not stepping down hard on white supremacist and allowing his officers to go rough on counter-protesters. But she saw a historic chance to do something that can vault the department forward and took that chance, congrats to her and may she have a bright future.
