Trump to accept Republican nomination in Jacksonville, Florida
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump will accept the Republican presidential nomination in Jacksonville, Florida, this summer after balking at having the event in Charlotte, North Carolina, due to the states coronavirus social-distancing rules.
Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement on Thursday the official business of the partys convention would still be held in Charlotte but the celebration of Trumps nomination would be moved to Jacksonville.

(14,565 posts)Trump carried Florida in 2016 but Duval County was basically a toss up, only a small edge to Trump. That shocked the GOP. Then in 2018 Andrew Gillum and Bill Nelson both carried Duval despite losing statewide.
This is the epitome of a strategic choice. Trump knows he can't win without Florida. Republicans understand they have spent so much time cutting loses in South Florida that they got a bit complacent in the Jacksonville area.
