"SNIP....
With her victory in 2018, Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) helped to upend a bit of longstanding Democratic Party conventional wisdomthat unabashedly progressive candidates dont win in historically conservative districts.
Now as one of the rising stars of the partys progressive wing and one of its top fundraisers, Porterwho raised $2 million in the first quarter of this year alonehas decided to leverage her considerable donor network to boost other candidates who are hoping to pull off the very same feat she did two years ago. This week, the congresswoman is launching a political action committee, called Truth to Power PAC, that will direct funds shes raised toward a slate of progressive congressional candidates around the country.
The assumption about the partys most vulnerable lawmakers, said Porter in an interview with The Daily Beast, that they are moderatesthat people who flip seats dont speak up or dont speak outthose are really important assumptions to push back on
Whats really important is to allow candidates to compete, and not to limit voters opportunities to elect the candidate they believe will best represent them.
Porters organization, typically referred to as a leadership PAC, has announced an initial set of seven endorsements. Theyre a mix of candidates who, like Porter, are running on left-wing platforms to flip GOP-held seats; shes also backing progressives who are running in open seats and one who is primarying an incumbent Democrat.

I fell in love.
To anybody she questions in a hearing:
If she whips out that whiteboard, just drop to the floor in a faint. Getting hauled out of there by paramedics is your only hope.

(6,137 posts)yes, Katie is a uniter but thata not guarantee of success. AOC plows through with no mercy. Confidence is polarizing but she is also building an army. Gen Z would love AOC.

(19,908 posts)As the old saying goes, be nice to people on the way up, because you might meet them again on the way down.
I think AOC has calmed down a lot since she first arrived on the scene, and she has distanced herself from Bernie Sanders, but she has trampled on a lot of colleagues toes, and is backing challengers against Dem incumbents. That's a risky strategy, if it doesn't work out. It'll be interesting to see where the two are, in a couple of years time.
