OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A journalist who attended President Donald Trumps rally in Tulsa last week said Friday he has tested positive for COVID-19.
Oklahoma Watch reporter Paul Monies said he was notified Friday of his positive diagnosis.
Im pretty surprised, Monies wrote on Twitter. I have zero symptoms (so far) and I feel fine. In fact, I ran 5 miles this morning.
Monies said he was inside the rally for about 6 hours on Saturday at the BOK Center and that he wore a mask and mostly practiced social distancing, except for when he went to the concourse to get a snack. He said he was never close to the president.

(48,789 posts)It takes about a week for first cases in an outbreak to show up, and that is too soon for it to be noticed as an outbreak. It takes a few days for an infection to be noticed by a patient, a day or two to actually get tested, and a day to four days for results to come back.
After a week, a few people detected infected will not bump stats. It takes a few doubling periods within the outbreak cluster of contacts for it to really become noticeable.
That is why the opening up (prematurely) in many states a month ago didn't create a bump until a couple of weeks after and has taken four weeks to become a full-blown spike.

(36,217 posts)Our Catholic church started a modest reopening with a Saturday Mass. The priest was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday with that Covid-19 thingy, and is in a bad way. It was reported that they practiced safe distancing, and all that, but he was the ONLY one in attendance NOT wearing a mask. Go figure.

Say nothing about the choir of heavenly voices with only a few coughs between them.
Or the tender moments when the parishioners reach out to each other.
Dirty money in the offering plate? Multiple touch surfaces?
Will holy water do the trick?
Sorry, I get carried away.

(15,359 posts)Everything was already going up prior to June 20th, and there doesn't seem to be any big spikes since then. Not that there won't be, but this graph doesn't fit the narrative.

(4,612 posts)What matters is the measures they took- or didn't, like spreading people out, or holding a rally to begin with- to keep people safe.

(71,901 posts)Two members of a campaign advance team who attended President Donald Trumps rally in Oklahoma on Saturday have tested positive for the coronavirus, the campaign said Monday.
The new test results bring the tally of advance team members for the Tulsa event who have tested positive for Covid-19 up to eight.
The number includes at least two Secret Service officers who had been detailed to the event and tested positive for the virus before the rally began Saturday evening.
