(35,173 posts)Anonymous sources say that intelligence services, based on interrogations of Taliban captives, concluded there's a likelihood that a GRU unit, based on somebody's authority, made an offer to some Taliban to attack and kill some Americans and British soldiers ... But the evidence, source of authority, who made the offer, to whom the offer was made, the actual incidents that resulted, and whether any money was paid ...
It's rather less than "somebody did something somewhere." At least with the bare verb "did" something actually happened. It's more like "we think somebody maybe did something somewhere." Truly, a rousing call to arms.
High likelihood? Low likelihood?
Who were the captives? How many?
Who interrogated them? How long? What circumstances? Please don't tell me that some remote Afghan army unit tortured this information, and we have to rely on that quality of humint.
Did they have first-hand information or hearsay?
Any corroboration?
What NATO units were attacked? When? Where?
What units were offered money to do the attacking? Where? When?
Was money turned over for the attacks? Where? When?
Granted, there will be gaps. But this is the Grand Canyon of gaps.
