Its not who he would have picked had Democrats retained the majority. Now he will be five years older, it would be a wasted pick.
They suggested he nominate someone they could agree on, specifically naming Garland as someone they'd agree on. So he called their bluff.
Garland is not who we should nominate once we have control.

It could be symbolic. He could serve a day, a week, a year and then step down. I don't think it will happen, but those are possibilities.
