As the number of cases in in the city and state rise, Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry, his staff and healthcare experts have been discussing a mask order for more than a week, two sources said. A final turning point for Curry came after the decisions by the Coast Guard and Navy, which has two facilities in Jacksonville, to order indoor mask-wearing.

“Healthcare experts say it mitigates risk and city hall learned military installations in Jacksonville are mandating it as well,” a source said of Curry’s thinking.

Curry is determined to have the GOP convention take place safely in Jacksonville, and those familiar with his thinking say he wants to do what he can to once again reduce infection rates and rising hospitalizations. Jacksonville’s infection and hospitalization rates are well below those in Miami-Dade County in the southeast corner of the state.

Though he earned a reputation for governing in a bipartisan way, Curry’s approval ratings took a hit in a recent poll from the University of North Florida, which found significant voter opposition to the event.

If they don't, Trump will be in the same situation he was with north Carolina. He can't really move it again. On the other hand, it could probably be held anywhere in a motel 6 given how many people will probably skip.

They thought FL would give them free rein to indulge Trump's childish and hazardous demands, where NC would not.

Oops!

Is the RNC going to pay to rent empty Cruise ships to house the tens of thousands of Delegates, the Press, Dignitaries, special guests, etc? The Mayo Clinic facility is not that far away. They will be busy doing testing.

The mandatory wearing of masks will not go well with the Trumpers in town to scream and shout for their clown.

they could probably hold in in a motel 6 and that would be plenty of room.

Neither party is likely to have the usual big indoor convention this time. He should have left it up in the air until the last possible minute. It's probably time to throw in the towel and just announce it's not gonna happen. Democrats need to come up with some kind of alternate plan to do it online and or outside with actual social distancing.

What city is going to be dumb enough to take over and start planning for a convention if Trump dumps Jacksonville?

And deprive their Dear leader of tens of thousands of adoring, screaming fans when he speaks. Trump wants the balloons and confetti to flow.

Trump gets off on all the pomp and circumstance to him.

Instead of citations for the republicans in their convention hall without masks simply announce we will turn off the power.
