... there are the bombshell allegations that Russia offered cash bounties to Taliban-linked fighters for successful attacks on American troops in Afghanistan ... Trump was briefed on this but did nothing – apart from offering to invite Vladimir Putin to a G7 summit ... If Trump was told about the bounties, he betrayed US soldiers; if he wasn’t .. his administration is murderously incompetent.

Trump has responded .. in his usual manner: outraged tweets ... Trump called the story “another fabricated Russia hoax” and claimed he hadn’t been briefed on the bounties claim because it wasn’t “credible”. How ... did he ascertain the information wasn’t credible if it was never reported to him? ...

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany attempted to clarify matters ... Trump hadn’t been briefed, she told reporters, because there were “dissenting opinions” about the veracity of the information ... a very different excuse from the one proffered by Trump ...

... He has done his best to ignore the pandemic but .. it hasn’t gone away ... And .. most .. new cases are coming from election battleground states, including Texas and Florida.

... Last Friday, Trump .. announced that he had cancelled a trip to New Jersey in order to stay in DC and ensure “order was enforced”. The next day he headed to one of his .. golf courses in Virginia ... Trump .. also retweeted .. a video of one of his supporters shouting “White power! White power!” ...

Jared Kushner and Russia’s ambassador to Washington discussed the possibility of setting up a secret and secure communications channel between Trump’s transition team and the Kremlin, using Russian diplomatic facilities in an apparent move to shield their pre-inauguration discussions from monitoring, according to U.S. officials briefed on intelligence reports.

Ambassador Sergey Kislyak reported to his superiors in Moscow that Kushner, son-in-law and confidant to then-President-elect Trump, made the proposal during a meeting on Dec. 1 or 2 at Trump Tower, according to intercepts of Russian communications that were reviewed by U.S. officials.
