Nordstrom has reduced its workforce, including corporate operations at its Seattle headquarters, by thousands amid the economic decline of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Seattle Times reported that the retailer cut 6,000 jobs nationwide in June, despite the company announcing that 378 of their stores including retail locations in Washington such as the downtown flagship store had reopened. It is unclear how many of the layoffs were store staff and how many were related to corporate operations.
Earlier in May, Nordstrom announced that it was shuttering 16 locations permanently due to the pandemic. The closures were estimated to make up 14% of the company's 116 full-line stores.
The closures and layoffs come after Nordstrom saw net sales decrease by 40% in the first quarter of the year amid the pandemic which has devastated luxury and fashion apparel retailers across the country.

He did notice some personnel reorg at his store recently. Said they have been busy filling orders during big sales, otherwise kind of slow.
