'Crystal clear' drunk people can't socially distance, say police in England

Police Federation chair says revellers would not adhere to one-metre-plus rules as pubs opened on Saturday

Drunk people are unable to properly socially distance, the chairman of the Police Federation has said as pubs reopened in England for the first time since lockdown. John Apter said it was “crystal clear” revellers would not adhere to the one metre plus rule as restrictions were eased on Saturday.

Prof Chris Whitty said the pandemic “is a long way from gone” and urged the public to follow social-distancing rules as pubs and restaurants reopened.

But images from London’s Soho showed packed streets into the early hours of Sunday. Apter, who was on shift in Southampton where he dealt with “naked men, happy drunks, angry drunks, fights and more angry drunks”.....

No shit, says anyone who has spend some rowdy times in bars in their day. Boris Johnson and U.S. red state governors seem to think they can "advise" and "recommend" us out of a pandemic using rules with no teeth and now the public is paying a horrific price.

Next, the UK's infection curves will start doing an exponential upturn just like in many RED counties in the USA.

to work at their bars, etc. I don't blame them, being (1) they got at least $600 a week plus $200 extra too while stay at home orders were in effect. Why should I put my life in harms' way for a bunch of drunks?

I won't even try to go out unless I know that there is plenty of room around (inside or outside) to social distance. The place I go has been very good, tables widely spaced out, plenty of room around for everyone to have plenty of room/social distance from each other, etc. Quite a few will have masks on too, or close at hand.

If a place doesn't try to help social distancing, etc., then why are you still trying to go there? They obviously don't care about you.

We have a leadership vacuum in several major nations that are not pounding it into people's heads just how deadly it is and instead are promoting re-opening their economies.

I've had people tell me because they don't know anyone that's had it, they are not worried. We don't have enough PSAs to educate people and a mailed document program would be good, too. If Trump promoted that, it would happen.

Our own damn politicians (that should be public servants) are killing us......

amazing that my sister and her family didn't seem to take the CV seriously in southwestern MO, until they had a couple of kids that tested positive for the CV. Now they are all terrified of the CV. They've been sitting on the sidelines, watching (probably w/ some amusement) the CV situation unfold in STLMO and KCMO, until the 'chickens came home to roost' in their own neighborhood in SW MO.

Take care.

When I scan through the infection graphs for counties around the nation, the vast majority with exponential growth curves are in red states that opened up too early. There are lots of examples in blue areas as well.

Seriously.

Here in NE NY, there's a place that I've passed and couldn't help noticing the sign (since it obstructed my view when trying to make a left turn). Since indoor dining was prohibited, it said that the "full menu and full bar" were available for take out! How they're going to get around open container laws, let alone the chance of DWIs, are a mystery to me!
