What will happen when the unemployment benefit payments end in several months?

Right now I get the impression that's the only thing still holding our society together but it's going to end for most people in several months. There's no sign of any 2nd stimulus act passing anytime soon either. Are we screwed and will see even worse riots in August/September?

2. The senate and house should have a second stimulus bill

Announced next week. A lot of states have unemployment benefits extended till I think, at least January and might extend further out if necessary. Hopefully the bill announced next week will keep us afloat, and the extra unemployment extended.

At least in that dystopian world, they only had a fucked up totalitarian state and famine conditions...we get the added benefit of a pandemic disease run amok at the same time the clock is running out on our chances to prevent even more calamitous climate related issues in the near future...

Time to find District 13 and volunteer for the resistance I think...

5. Technically the final additional payment will be on July 26th in most places

and if it happens the economy (such as it is) will deeply, deeply tank.

Much less money moving around, very few mortgage, car, credit card payments - people won't be able to buy things like uh, food.

It will be horrific.

But, I think the Senate Republicans will go ahead and extend the benefits, even if it's at a lower amount than the additional $600.

Those whom loose their Bennies in September will be crap out of luck until November 4th. With the election behind,Moscow Mitch will be forced to pass emergency legislation to make people whole by December 15th.

And we now know Mitch will do everything possible to leave one f--d up economy for Biden. That is a give.

9. I think the Republicans will agree to a short term extension of Unemployment

And maybe even another stimulus check, but nothing more.

I don’t think we will get unemployment enhancement through January (probably September), but we could get short term and Congress will have to decide if that’s enough for now.

Maybe something slightly less than $600 per month. They don’t want an election issue where broke, angry people finally hold republicans’ asses accountable.

10. The $600 ends this month. Florida's benefits are $275 a week.

By the end of August we will have epidemic hunger and homelessness.

Not extending the benefit will hurt trump worse than the virus.

11. Can't the blue states increase their amounts on their own?

When I was laid off in all of 2009, the max amount in Michigan was $362 with no additional federal supplement. It is still the same $362 eleven years later.

I would think the blue states could step up by increasing the amount they pay every week substantially to help people and their own state economy. This would also show people in the red states see what happens when Democrats are in charge.

12. Nearly 1/3 of mortgages and rent payments were late last month

Give things a couple of months without expanded benefits and that’ll translate directly to a huge number of delinquent mortgages, evictions, foreclosures, etc.
