(4,507 posts)compared to "English" English thing?
I've always thought that "he" was the correct way to state it.
Similarly, what about "He and I ........." vs "Him and I......"?
leftieNanner
(14,998 posts)"He and I" is correct.
The "me and him" thing that is popular with young folks drives me CRAZY!

(4,507 posts)I'm trying to figure out though why "to he and his family" sounds correct to me (and always has done). And still wondering if it's an English vs American thing. I dunno, maybe it's just Canadian.
I'm a bit of a stickler for grammar myself and certainly agree that "me and him" (or "me and Joe" sounds ignorant. And it's not only young folks...

(6,854 posts)Example:
He ate food.
Add the prepositional phrase "with her"
He ate food with her.
prepositional phrases start with words like: about, above, below, besides,

(10,997 posts)the preposition requires him. I am only pointing this out because a genius like drumpf wouldn't have it any other way.

(40,152 posts)There is a word for this kind of message: Perfunctory.
Trump never allows a day to pass without reminding us of the depth of his loathsomeness.

(3,164 posts)When someone dies, you dont send prayers to them. You send prayers to their family. The person who died doesnt need your prayers any more.

(23,855 posts)setup: Trump makes grammatical error in post claiming sorrow and prayer regarding the passing of Rep. John Lewis
mistake response: Look! he couldn't even get the grammar right in his tweet
knockdown: "the hypocritical radical left is attacking our president for grammar details in a message to the American people honoring the great John Lewis"
in other words:
there's plenty to criticize here, but the grammar is detail bait. try this instead: "how is it that the president of the United States of America could not find it in his heart to do more to honor Rep. John Lewis than tweet 2 sentences from the golf course? where is his statement on the systemic racial inequality that plagues our society today?"
i swear Trump does this on purpose -- take some ill-considered half-assed action, intentionally package it in a tweet with an error that gets everyone talking about how he wouldn't make it through the 3rd grade. meanwhile, the half-assery continues unchecked.
Putin smiles.
