I was given some sort of cognitive test over 20 years ago.

I was working as a suit and tie professional, and had a very sudden onset of major depression. It turns out that there was a physical cause, which was controlled relatively quickly, but the depression lingered for quite some time. I'm fit as a fiddle now though.

I did poorly on the test. I particularly remember that I was asked to remember 3 simple words, and was told that I was going to be asked to repeat them later. When asked, I could not remember any of them. I could not read more than a few sentences of a book. I could not follow a simple conversation.

The point I am making is that I was a freaking mess. I was devastatingly non-functional.

I don't want to make a blanket statement about this, but I will say that based on my own experience, you have to be either royally fucked up or gravely ill to do poorly on that test. I hope this statement is not offensive, that is not my intent. Everything I'm saying here is my opinion only, based only on my experience.

The thing is, this illness hit me so hard and so fast, that I KNEW I was in bad shape, and it was the most frightening experience I've ever had.

So this makes me wonder:

1) Why Trump received the test
2) How he really performed
3) Does he know he's a mess

She wanted to keep me behind for a second round at Kindergarten and not advance me with my classmates.

Mom wasn't having any of it. She had a masters degree in psychology (which was something in 1963). She appealed to the Principal, who was sympathetic, but had to support his teachers. He gave Mom a loophole: if my parents took me for cognitive tests, inc. IQ, and I did adequately, he would override my Kindergarten teacher.

My parents took me to Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC, to the top doctor. I had no idea what was going on as I was five. We played games. He showed me cards. We had fun. And my score showed I was quite above average.

Mom marched back to my teacher and told her in no uncertain terms to pass me and to stop calling her into conferences about me.

Deep down, he knows he’s ALWAYS been a mess.

His fragile ego (his conscious mind), however, can never accept that he is a mess. His ego would fall apart if he entertained that possibility. No. He’s perfect. Just ask him. That’s what he will tell you, and that’s what he must tell himself.
