Republicans Will Push Hard for a Reopening In September...

...particularly if the rate growth in new cases or deaths merely slows. The goal is to try to generate an artificial uptick in employment around October so that Trump can claim credit for the job growth, but before the new cases and deaths resulting from the second premature opening hit a month or two later in late November or December.

This is the reason for Republicans in hard hit Florida and Texas insisting on reopening schools even as hospitalizations and deaths continue to grow. I think Abbott and DiSantis are betting that the curve will be flattened a bit by August to give them cover for reopening schools to give Trump a temporary boost in time for the election.

I’d like to think there are enough people in the other side who while corrupt, selfish, whatever, they would not directly try to steal the election. But as time goes on my faith in any sort of decency is evaporating. One thing about the virus, it’s going to do what it’s going to do no mater how hard the RW tries to deny it. And at the rate things are going it will be a real black and white choice for voters; continue to bury their heads in the sand or realize action is needed that our current administration is incapable of.
