The Michigan Court of Appeals on Friday ordered the immediate release of a 15-year-old girl detained in Oakland County after allegedly failing to complete schoolwork, a condition of her probation.
The girl will be released into her mother's custody "pending appeal or further order of this court," the three-judge appellate panel ordered.
The appellate panel included judges Deborah Servitto, an appointee of former Gov. Jennifer Granholm; Elizabeth Gleicher, also a Granholm appointee; and Jonathan Tukel, an appointee of former Gov. Rick Snyder.
Lawyers for the girl, who goes by the pseudonym Grace, were "ecstatic" minutes after receiving the news Friday.
