My grandparents all fought the Nazis and Imperial Japan, even the pacifists who had refused to take up arms.
Two of my grandparents were welders who built and repaired Liberty and Victory ships.
My other grandma, Army Air Corp officer's wife, leveraged her Hollywood connections into the war effort.

Perhaps back in Teddy Roosevelts day they opposed fascism, but they have always hated socialism more.
