COVIDIOT: Tuscaloosa Mayor Reopens College Bars as COVID-19 Skyrockets at University of Alabama

The mayor of Tuscaloosa is letting bars near the University of Alabama reopen on Tuesday, even though the school just reported more than 800 new cases.

In a press release, Mayor Walt Maddox citied a “positive trend” in results, saying an overall decline in community positivity rates “provides an opportunity for a limited reopening of bars which have sacrificed a great deal to protect our healthcare system and economy.” At the same time, the university reported 846 new cases over the last week—the largest increase in a single week since classes began.

Maddox shut down all bars in the area for two weeks in late August, after more than 500 University of Alabama students tested positive in the first five days back on campus. The latest tally shows an increase in average daily cases from that first report, though a slight decline from a truncated, three-day report the week before.

The university boasted about the trend in a press release, with Dean of the College of Community Health Sciences Richard Friend claiming it “shows that the UA System Health & Safety Plan is working.”

this is intentional. "They" (the trumpanzees in the GOP) have decided to open everything back up, tell seniors in assisted living facilities "good luck" and let everyone else take their chances with getting the virus.

They WANT 70% of us to get the virus and let those of us who will die, just die.

They believe that this will achieve herd immunity.

They have ignored a number of issues:

1. If you have the virus and do not die from it, we don't KNOW how long a period you will be immune, could be years, could be months, might be only weeks.

2. The virus has mutated at least a few times already, it is speculated that some people (relatively few so far) have been infected twice... possibly from different mutations.

3. This virus is very dangerous and not just from the "CFR" or case fatality rate... many more people that survive this virus have long term health effects, even young college students. These include heart and lung damage, kidney damage, even brain damage... and whereas the CFR might only be somewhere between .5% and 1%, the significant health damage may well be around 5%. We don't know yet whether or not people will fully or partially recover from the effects of the virus. We don't even know yet whether or not having had Covid-19 might pose significant co-morbidity with future illness like a flu or cold... we could see increased death rates for many "common infections" for 3 generations or more.

They think they know what they are doing... but their desire to "return to normal' (both to give Trump the best chance at re-election AND for economic reasons) outweighs any caution about the science of SARS-Cov-2.

We are all lab rats in their grand experiment.
