Turns out, she works for a group led by Steve Bannon.A strange new paper claiming the coronavirus was a "laboratory product" quietly made its way into a repository of preliminary research on Monday.
"The laboratory creation of this coronavirus is convenient and can be accomplished in approximately six months," the paper's authors, four Chinese virologists who fled to the US earlier this year, wrote.
Li-Meng Yan, the lead author, went a step further in a Tuesday interview with the Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
She told Carlson that her government had "intentionally" released the "man-made virus" comments that echoed a fringe conspiracy theory that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and President Donald Trump alluded to in May.

(25,746 posts)The nonsense about the virus coming from a lab or being deliberately released was pretty thoroughly shot down back in about March. So who the hell is she? And why should we believe her?
Heck, the fact that she's on Fox, not in some article in the NYTimes is itself a pretty strong indication she's full of crap.

(5,631 posts)"Its hard to be shocked in a moment like this, but you have succeeded in shocking me," Carlson said at the end of the interview. "Unfortunately, this is not the forum for the details of your research; I dont have the grounding necessary to ask you the right questions."
Scientists do. The consensus of the scientific community and international public health organizations is that the coronavirus emerged from bats and later jumped to humans.
But the doctors interview on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" quickly took off, inspiring a rash of social media posts parroting her claims.

(21,859 posts)thing. Otherwise, we'd have cures for cancer, and other viruses out there, wouldn't we? Think of the untold $billions one would make, making such cures...It would worth every penny to whomever could engineer such cures. I think now, most vaccines are engineered by weakening the viruses and then allowing the human body to create more robust antiviral antibodies against the viruses in question.
Of course this is my weak and feeble approximation of this whole process of creating a vaccine, this process involves whole subsets of actions, in no way could I even begin to list them here. All I hope is that we get lots of CV vaccines, accurately and thoroughly tested, prior to being applied to the overall population, worldwide.
