Hillary Clinton to headline Texas Democrats' Johnson-Jordan dinner
illary Clinton will headline the Texas Democratic Partys annual Johnson-Jordan fundraising dinner, an entirely virtual affair, next Thursday.
Clinton, the partys 2016 presidential nominee, will be joined at the dinner by former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who sought the partys presidential nomination in 2020, and MJ Hegar, the partys U.S. Senate nominee.
Im proud to join the Texas Democratic Party for the Johnson-Jordan Dinner, Clinton said in a statement. Ive seen the grit and determination of folks in Texas who are working to change American politics for the better, going back to my first trip to the state to register voters back in 1972.
Like the rest of the country, Texas stands at a crossroads. Weve seen the destruction caused by Donald Trump and Texas Republicans, Clinton said. Thats why we need leaders like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris who have the smart solutions, compassion and resolve to help us build back better. Texas is truly a battleground state: Without Texas, Donald Trump cannot win. Im thrilled to support Texas Democrats heading into November and beyond.
Clinton lost to Trump by 9 points in Texas in 2020, the closest result since 1996 when her husband, President Bill Clinton, came within 5 points of Republican nominee Bob Dole.
Polling this year indicates a potentially even closer race with at least the possibility of Democrats taking Texas for the first time since Jimmy Carter outpolled President Gerald Ford in Texas in 1976.
The RealClearPolitics polling average has Trump leading Biden in Texas by 3.5 points.
