If/When the Democrats have the majority in the Senate, the Filibuster must go.

It's not that they necessarily want it to be retired. Mitch McConnell and the Republicans have forced their decision.

Let's say the Democrats take the Senate and Mitch McConnell gets re-elected, then McConnell is the Minority Leader. And past history has proved that there is a rare dissention from Republican senators when McConnell wants or doesn't want something. Even when they disagree or their constituents disagree. So to speak, whatever "Lola" wants, Lola gets.

As Minority Leader, almost every bill sent to the Senate that originated from Obama for most of his term was not voted on. Not voted down. Not voted on, period. Because McConnell was successful in executing the filibuster with the arbitrary 60-vote prerequisite before the bill was voted up-and-down. Because he knew that the bill would pass without the filibuster.

Pre-McConnell, the filibuster was sparingly used. If you watch Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, Jimmy Stewart was required to orate to the point of killing himself to get political leverage for a bill. Not anymore. Two buttons now. Yea or nay. And as cited above, for nearly every bill proposed by a Democrat in the White House.

If one reviews McConnell for the past decade, you know he's going follow his MO again, whether it's Trump or Biden. (Well, esp. if it's Biden).

And that's why Democrats have to take away McConnell's stick, the Filibuster. Because he won't put it down and he'll continue to hit with it indefinitely. And he'll cry in moral outrage that no Filibuster will destroy the gears of democracy. No it won't. The Filibuster is not in the Constitution. Just Senate Rules. And rules can be amended or removed.

1. It's not the real filibuster anymore, anyway.

And it hasn't been the real filibuster for many years. I think this should not even be called by the same name.
