Is it possible that Romney is assuming that Trump will nominate Amy Coney Barrett, perhaps

the most extreme RWNJ on Trump's short list, and has decided to support considering her and then vote against her?

This could be seen by some as being a "loyal Republican" with enough independence to appeal to the "never-Trumpers" and some independents when he runs for POTUS in 2024.

That would suggest RMoney has principles to actually oppose this vote. If this candidate gets to a vote it's game over. Barrett is a terrible choice. It's awesome how most people disagree with the shit she believes, but because of our sham Democracy the thinking of people in red states makes the rules for the majority of the nation. Freedom Baby!!!

except for rape, mother's life in danger, extreme birth defects that the child wouldn't survive anyway.

If I were in charge, only atheists could be elected representatives. Mystical fairytales have no place in public policy.

or the party and they will take it like a beaten dog and then come back later gleefully jumping around and slobbering.

As long as it is someone higher in their hierarchy they are fine with it.

I don't think they expect anyone they consider their better to respect them and they willingly forfeit any self respect at the drop of hat.
