hopeless and awful.
This nation, the squatter in the WH and much of the population here (the U.S.) are miserable beyond description. Knowing they have control of the Senate and the WH is sickening. Ive jettisoned family members because of that. I cant be around their toxicity. Must protect myself now. Its extremely hard when you have other members of your family fighting you on that. Making you feel guilty for trying to protect yourself and not having a relationship with the toxic ones anymore. In addition to that, wouldnt you know it, but my anti depressants have stopped working.
I know this is a pretty dark thought, but the orange pant load cant suffer a long, slow, excruciating death soon enough. Unfortunately, it wont be until they further corrode the SC with another twisted motherfucker who has authority to make so many lives horrible.
Im sick of feeling so rotten. Dont want to do anything, see anybody and have nothing to look forward to.

(15,995 posts)A lot of us get to feeling this way.
It is hard to watch the good things about our society be gleefully destroyed piece by piece while the negative ones are made worse every day.
And if it wasn't for Covid, we could do stuff with other people, go to movies, stuff to get ourselves out of our own heads, but can't really do that either.
I'm sorry. I wish I could help.

(4,824 posts)sanity and to prevent me from plunging further, I've stopped watching all the news, and I pick and choose the threads I open on DU.

(25,746 posts)TV news. Turn it off, or at least turn to reruns of Big Bang Theory or some such. Go for a walk. Read a book. Sitting home and having the TV on all the time is one of the worst things you can do.
Oh, and if you live in a state with one or two Republican Senators, call them, write them, go to their offices. Let them know exactly how you feel on this topic.

(14,893 posts)of making a couple of strong points about covid 19 and SCOTUS. I did so, but I ended up ranting more than I meant to and said that Sen.Blackburn was an ignorant cracker. I'm not proud of losing control of my emotions like that, but I don't think I was incorrect. And I did feel a little better afterward and had a good laugh with my best friend about the ignorant cracker part.
Lol.....I love the ignorant cracker part!
I cannot abide that disgusting woman. I cant believe I have to live in the same state with her. Blech.....

(4,098 posts)Lost my best friend to cancer last week, RBG died, COVID-19 marches on, and were on the fast train to fascism.
Please try to remember though, we are not alone. Millions of people are feeling the same way we are. I read an article yesterday about families who are suffering over loved ones being pulled into the QAnon Orbit.
I stay semi-sane by hanging onto DU. Its been such a lifesaver for me for the last 19 years.

(3,803 posts)But it really does help to focus on what you can do and stop worrying about what you have no control over.
Vote. Help others vote. Take time to enjoy something.
Take a break from social media.

(14,893 posts)grateful for, even if that also seems trite. I find it can really be helpful. Include everything, big and small, past and present. We are living through a challenging time in our history but please try to find something beautiful to focus your mind upon. Your DU family cares about you, as you can see from the many responses.

Nothing but vote and telling others to vote, telling your Facebook peeps to vote, telling your gamer friends to vote.
Our part is very small but effective

The toxic ones are too influenced by brain/ego. All Trumpers are. They pursue lies to validate their prejudices, insecurities. They see the world and govt only in terms of how they are personally affected. This is freedom, liberty.
Democrats want liberty and justice for everyone. This is equality. This is led by soul.
Ego people are incapable of feeling soul dictates because their souls are small. Small soul, small mind. Soul people are unwilling to turn their backs to the qualities that any fool should be able to see is better for everyone in society. Soul will not embrace lies, hatefulness, just can't. Impasse.
If you trust the gospels, this is why Jesus said families would turn on one another. Jesus taught what is necessary for soul development...but elsewhere he gave about a 25% success rate for soul appeal to take root.
I'm sorry for your situation. You can't make the blind see. My beautician...I can see the ego views in her and when we talk politics, it's a wonder we haven't blown up. So I started bringing my Kindle with me and scanning, then reading aloud, interesting passages from a book on the souls experiences on the other side. Now hair time is great! We discuss goodness, so much better!

(14,598 posts)I have my moments of despondency, despair and fear. Otherwise it's more lowered level of engery because of covid19 I can't go out much thus walking in my usual parks, gardens, and around my city in mid Spring, Summer, Fall which lift my energy plus the worries about whats happened already, our country, the Election etc.
To counter balance I get lost in a good book, look at comedic as well as dramaticTV shows, movies (DVD), talk to my friends and family, in my case do Art, make jewelry, knit and crochet, listen to Music, of course vids of kittens, puppies, cats, dogs, horses, dolphins. I love looking at Nature photography, and Architecture here and around the world. On line Tune in radio while I listen to MSNBC, WNYC there - they also have music stations as well.
All this doesn't totally take the emotional pain away all the time - but it mutes it, or it goes away for a time some hours.
Get in contact with your Doctor or Nurse Practitioner about your meds as soon as you can about readjustment That's a real bummer. Good luck!

(3,624 posts)If Biden wins and we retake the Senate then we can turn our pain into power - just like RBG and John Lewis did.
The GOP will pay a heavy price for this, they've revealed who they, and it thus gives us the moral authority to move forward with major systemic reforms whether they like it or not. We are the majority and growing in this country and states like Texas are trending in our direction, and when it goes blue the GOP is finished.

(13,469 posts)And my only suggestion for you is to take a break from the news and social media. Have an action plan for voting and helping get out the vote. Volunteer for the Biden Harris campaign if you can. In a better world I would suggest connecting with your community, whether it be family, friends, church, group, club, or anything. But that's tough now with Covid and no end in sight. But maybe call someone on the phone or FaceTime them. Seeing a familiar face or hearing a voice can help.
I know that sort of positive action feels heavy and almost impossible right now, but life will get better. When we've surrendered ourselves to all the overwhelming stories coming at us fast and furious, it's easy to feel as you do. I have many times. But I've helped pull myself out of it by my connections with friends, my work, and my focus on things outside of my own fears.
