29 justices is the number to start with.

(40,153 posts)We could start with adding 4, then it would be up to 13. Like a Coven. That would give them nightmares.

and while we are at it... suspend all rules in the Senate not explicitly called for by the constitution.
Tell the new minority repukes to NOT BOTHER to come back to Washington... they will not be on any committees, they will not be offered time to question witnesses, they will NOT be allowed to off amendments to legislation.
Then we allow 30 million to immigrate and be made citizens...
We will flip all states blue.
Then we screw the rich... Warrens wealth tax.
Medicare for all, universal basic income, green new deal.
Oh, and any states that elect repukes to be Governor or Senate... no new government spending in those states... cut farm subsidies...
we have to make them pay for being assholes... otherwise they will never stop.

(6,283 posts)The last time the court was expanded was to accommodate the move from 7 circuits to 9. Today we have 13. We're just following the intent of the framers by having an associate justice for every circuit. No racking, no stacking, no packing (homage to the late Fred Thompson in Die Hard 2...or was it 3 ???)...just plain old originalism at work.

(21,806 posts)If rethugs ever get back in power, they will expand it more to get their people on, and it will just keep escalating.
On the other hand, the current situation cannot stand. There will be no justice.

(802 posts)I have no problem expanding the court. We did not start this. Moscow Mitch and his Republican friends started it when they refused to give Merrick Garland a fair hearing. Schumer said it very clearly tonight. Now that they have done this and have their Justice, they have forfeited their right to complain about anything Democrats do when they are in power.
