More Cletus Safaris in the future

I have been quite pleased, even delighted, all day today with the news of Biden's victory over the worst president in US history. Now that I am a bit less giddy I had the terrible thought that now the media is going to subject us to a never-ending Cletus Safari, telling us what Trump supporters in Devil's Crotch, Tennessee or some other backwards place are thinking and feeling about the Biden presidency.

We went through all this crap with the Tea Party assholes when Obama took office and we heard it again with the MAGATS when Trump took office. Please, for the love of humanity, make it stop! I don't care what these deplorables think anymore.

It is less about my feelings or thoughts on the matter than it is about the media constructing a false narrative based on the non-representative voices of a few MAGATS and then mis-informing the public about this. If you recall, the media characterized the Trump voters in 2016 as being motivated primarily by economic insecurity. Legitimate political scientists discovered that this was false and that racial resentment was a substantially more powerful factor in explaining a vote for Trump. I don't think it unreasonable to ask the media to tone-down the aggrieved voices of these MAGAT troglodytes. Giving attention to these mouth-breathers helps them get their message across to other people who are more susceptible to their nonsense and who aren't going to shut-off their TVs or change the channel.

The same could be said for the democratic circular firing squad that started up again yesterday when some of the Dem congressmen and women made some comments the election. It is way too soon for us to have enough information to fully understand what happened this election. We run the danger of creating a false narrative about the election that guides us in the future, perhaps to bad results.

I think we should leave it up to the people who are trained to study these things in an empirical and comprehensive way before we agree to a narrative.

Finally, it is a good thing democratic voters didn't just change the channel to deal with their problems with Trump instead of voting Trump out of office. I watch the news to get information about things of interest.

With journalism, it simply is not. They occasionally brush up against it, but they are there to fill airtime between ads for drugs we never knew we needed.

My response stands.

but a lot of people do watch cable news as their primary source of news. The Cletus Safaris are also written about in the print media- New York Times has done quite a few and so have other prominent newspapers.

I had to laugh about the drug ad comment you made. I asked my wife just the other day what an alien from another planet would say about us based just on the commercials shown on TV. We love our cars, phones, and drugs.

Here in Kentucky we have towns such as Beaver Lick, Rabbit Hash, and a state park called Big Bone Lick, all within 30 minutes of my home, which is only 30 minutes south of Cincinnati.
