Since the election, President Donald Trump and his allies have faced fact-checks, condemnation and restrictions when trying to spread inconclusive evidence of voter fraud and leftist violence on social media.
But over on Parler, theres a new, millions-strong MAGA universe where conservatives are freely spreading these claims and reinforcing their belief that Democrats have stolen the election from Trump.
Hashtags on Parler denoting Trumps favorite conspiracy theories #Dominion, #Sharpiegate, #QAnon trend freely, without the restrictions Twitter and Facebook have instituted to suppress them. Stories from fringe sites pushing baseless allegations of voter fraud are not flagged as disinformation, as they often are elsewhere. Videos from the Million MAGA March depicting heated confrontations between MAGA supporters, counter-protesters and D.C. police are shared as evidence of rampant antifa violence, omitting necessary context that would show otherwise.
The set-up gives MAGA conservatives an easy way to simply dismiss the post-election beliefs of the public at large, the widely accepted reports in mainstream news outlets and the word of experts and even some government officials. There is now a robust, consequence-free echo chamber for them that confirms a worldview in which a rigged election system falsely gave Biden a victory, and leftist thugs are taking to the streets to ensure the outcome isnt overturned. And with over 4 million new downloads since Election Day nearly doubling the sites user base that echo chamber is expanding rapidly.

(9,696 posts)Will they call that "disinformation?" Will they simply delete any opinions they don't like?
Stay tuned, my guess is there will soon be opposition joining.

(7,802 posts)That lesson was learned when Discussionist was still up and running. They claim to love free speech, then they swarm like murder hornets and shut down all dissenting opinions, then they continue proclaiming their love for free speech.
Typical fascist behavior.

This is the last line in a huge pile of whiny arglebargle because Facebook is making him moderate his group for disinformation campaigns bew hew hewwwww. (Surprise! He's an ex-politician and active rightwanker and lying is one of his favorite hobbies!!) (114 posts)Let them have their safe space echo chamber. What can be done, and what should have been done years ago with AM Radio and Fox "News" Entertainment, when the cultists emerge into the real world trying to introduce issues/viewpoints/bullshit from their safe space, is universal scorn, derision, mocking, and ultimately shunning.
It is my firm belief that if this had happened the first time Newt Gingrich went on Meet the Press and castigated Bill Clinton for having an affair, we would not be experiencing the situation we currently find ourselves in.

I mean isn't Loffler's husband the chairman of the Stock Exchange and would have to be at least an agent of the deep state?

(143,999 posts)The concpet tht Powell has a kraken to be unleashed is silly. Accordting to the RWNJ trump supporters, an idiot and bad attorney named Sidney Powell (Michael Flynn's current attorney) has a massive amount evidence that she calls the Kraken that will be released. According to the low IQ RWNJ, the Kraken will give trump a second term with a 100 milion votes.

No, this is a non-partisan American company, Steel told Fox News host Eric Shawn on Sunday. It is not physically possible for our machines to switch votes from one candidate to the other.
There is no way such a massive fraud could have taken place, he said. And there are no connections between our company and Venezuela, Germany, Barcelona, Katmandu whatever the latest conspiracy theory is.
The Dominion official went on to explain that electronic vote tallies can be audited with a paper trail.
If any electronic interference had taken place, the tally reportedly electronically would not match the printed ballots, Steel said. And in every case where weve looked at in Georgia, all across the country the printed ballots, the gold standard in election security, has matched the electronic tally.

Parler is a farce. A currently trending farce, but a farce nevertheless. It is not sustainable, and cannot function as a free speech outlet, as they claim to be, lest they open themselves to ridicule. The whole premise of Parler is rotten at its core: their idea of free speech is limited to freedom to spread baseless conspiracy theories. Conspiracies, in turn are a fertile ground for ridicule and mockery. Parler a self-defeating proposition, unless they become a closed self-defining universe of losers and whiners. And there is plenty of rivals out there from a myriad of outlets catering to losers and whiners, none being taken seriously by anyone other than the aforementioned losers and whiners.

(2,375 posts)I created one. Email, name, password, phone# required. When I sign in, I have to input a captcha line to show "I'm not a robot". Then, the site calls my phone# and gives me a 6-digit code to enter so I can log in. EVERY TIME I LOG IN I GET A PHONE CALL WITH A CODE I HAVE TO ENTER.
I logged in 3 times, and got a call every freaking time. I don't know if this is just me, or the way the site works.
I'm not going to keep my computer logged in to their site 24/7 just for curiosity.
I won't be using it anymore.
