There's no way for McConnell to "win" on the $2000 checks, and he'll take the survival path.

#1: Don't bring it to the Senate floor for a vote at all, a very likely option, certainly in keeping with his ongoing modus operandi. He'll come up with an excuse for doing so, most likely "not ballooning the deficit," already ballooned by Paul Ryan's tax cuts for millionaires.

#2: Bring it to the Senate floor and strong-arm Republicans into voting for it in the name of saving the two Georgia seats, and his majority.

#3 Bring it to the Senate floor and have it sink faster than the Trump impeachment vote. Those who have already been mentally spending the $2000 will be enraged, which doesn't leave Mitch smelling like a rose.

I don't think he gives a thought to pissed off people, as long as they're pissed off and keeping him in his "Leader" seat.

I don't think he'll allow it to come up for a vote.

The House votes today. The Senate vote (if there is one) will likely be before the GA vote.

6. They will vote on the Defense bill and adjourn. They weren't supposed to be in session this week.

According to Riddick’s Senate Procedure, “a motion to adjourn takes precedence over all other motions” under Rule XXII of the Standing Rules of the Senate. A motion to adjourn to a particular date and time takes precedence over all motions except a simple motion to adjourn.

9. They had to adjourn, they are waiting on the House to override the veto.

Which will take some time as Congresspeople are still flying back in to Washington to do the vote. They were away on holiday but they will get in sometime today or tomorrow. No guarantee they vote today (on either the $2000 or the NDAA override).

12. Couldn't we hold the defense bill hostage to get a vote on stimulus?

Tell Moscow Mitch one thing at a time. Make him vote on the stimulus or the defense bill stays vetoed.

He can't allow for it to come up to a vote because it will almost certainly pass. He has to just play his "eh, not my problem" bullshit, perhaps use Trump's rhetoric that the House didn't pass 230 crap or remove pork from a bill he already signed. It's done. He can't win so I agree he will take the least painful route and just not permit it to a vote.

When Schumer said he was going to be allowed to have the floor I was shocked. There's no fucking way.

10. Schumer will get the floor at 11 am on Jan 3, an hour before the Congress ends

One or more Senators, such as Rand Paul, will delay the vote on the Defense bill until the morning of the 3rd.

The Senate won't take up anything else until that is voted on.

16. McConnell cannot completely block it - Schumer to ask for unanimous consent

If Schumer asks for unanimous consent at least one Repub will have to object to block a vote on it. Then Repubs will be on record as against the $2,000
