(7,410 posts)Those who are sympathetic to Trump's insurrection by their behaviors and their statements must be expelled from Congress. It's too late for anything else. Schumer and Pelosi must expel them. And then they must be prosecuted.

(15,587 posts)last night say something like its absurd to think you can reach across the aisle to find common ground when the other side is opposed to your existing. Thats an excellent way of summing up the situation we face. And it is we. I hope Joe Biden hears.

Gohmerts as well for call for violence.
These are the low hanging fruit. I would be open to others.

(4,142 posts)There were 5 who chickened out after the assault on our Capitol building. They helped incite people across the country.
My own Sen Daines signed on long ago. He was part of the group that went to Russia over July 4, 2018 and lurking in the background ever since. Only this time he hasn't the balls to stand by his so called convictions.
Those five helped start this insurrection, they shouldn't be able to walk away unscathed

(15,587 posts)have conviction. They werent enlightened or attempting to do penance, they were shaking in their boots and afraid for themselves. It wasnt about the country, it was about them.
Graham was the worst of them. Trying to rewrite his involvement, even after he pressured Raffensperger himself well before tRump, by implying he reluctantly went along with the objectors because he thought it was just a debate of ideas or some such bullshit. Prosecute every one of the fuckers and at a very insufficient minimum, censure them all.

(15,587 posts)If they really are concerned about the nation as they say they are, they will expel at least the ringleaders: Harley, Cruz and Graham (he started this crap by pressuring Raffensberger to overturn the vote!) on the Senate side. .... Gohmert, Jordan and a boatload of others in the House.

(127,300 posts)(assuming he gets elected by his caucus as the Minority Leader because certainly the loons in the GOP could challenge him and run someone else) would do the committee assignments for their caucus.
What will change is that Democrats would be the Chairs and the GOP would be "Ranking members".

(42,374 posts)Senators can be censured. They can be expelled. Both of those actions requires a vote of the entire Senate. The Majority Leader doesn't control Republican committee assignments. He can't put a Senator in a "time out" or otherwise prevent a Senator from speaking, voting, etc.

(15,246 posts)as a message-sending action. The Rs should be ok with it since Hawley would be replaced with another R. I don't know what kind, if any, of recall laws MO has, but if they do, a recall would be in order by MO voters.
The House should expel at least 1 of the R ringleaders for the same reason.

(2,686 posts)but it would sure as goddamned hell be worth a try!
And get that slimy prick Cruz, too!
(And the 100 or so fascist traitors on the GOP side of the House.)
Arrest, detain, incarcerate, and let the wheels of justice spin ever so slowly when they attempt to post bond.
Optics? I say the optics would be wonderful. A special prison could be set up for these traitors, and videos could be made of their harsh treatment -- or, even better, videos of their posh treatment, allowing them to gather and speak, to have fine, catered meals, calls home (monitored, of course, but no time limits), so their claims of brutal treatment would be easily dismissed.
And maybe, just maybe theyd all catch the goddamned plague and die before posting bond or going to trial.
If that happens, Lord, Ill go back to church and even teach Sunday school!

(16,691 posts)Instead of discouraging terrorism against our country, he embraces it. One of the elected Dems last night said hawley was sending email fund-raising letters based on cashing in the yesterday's events. He is trying to inherit impeached traitor's base. Instead of choking out domestic terrorists, he is stroking them like a pet snake.
The Democratic party needs to find someone to run against him, and get that person out in the public as soon as possible. Every time hawley shows up in a public venue, get a Dem to show up in the same place. Be sure to talk about hawley's part in the coup. And show the wreckage inside the Capitol Building.

(1,584 posts)will be no political repercussions because voters have a short memory. They are wrong. What they plotted and tried to execute is not some sexual or financial misdemeanor. It was aimed at the heart of this country and what it stands for. The majority of their voters are patriotic Americans, and they will not forget. Any Democrat opposing them will, and should not, allow them to forget. Until then these seditious gaggle of loud mouths should be treated by the media as such.
