My wife is LDS, and hadn't attended a church service in nearly a year. She really wanted to attend this particular service, so against my better judgement I drove her and attended with her. We live in a very rural area in Tennessee, so its a very tiny congregation (maybe a dozen families, spread out).
All of this confessing, to lead up to my disgust that there was not a single word concerning the attack on our nation's Capitol! No message from the Church's Prophet and First Presidency. The LDS Church supposedly holds the belief that the Constitution is a "divinely inspired" document, but offers no statement admonishing its members to uphold it.
The Salt Lake Tribune had this to say;
"Top officials in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints declined to comment on Wednesdays assault on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump, a siege that included a banner copying the Title of Liberty used by the Book of Mormons Captain Moroni.". https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2021/01/06/reaction-capitol-assault/
I'm sure that the Mormon Church isn't the only church with nothing to say this morning. Much like the Republican party, worrying more about losing members of their congregations, than losing their integrity.

Our faith instructs us to take seriously positions of leadership, not to lead others astray and to be careful about what we say and do. In Philippians 2:3-4 we are taught to, Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.
President Donald J. Trumps actions and words have endangered the security of the country and its institutions of government by inciting a violent, deadly, seditious mob attack at the U.S. Capitol. His words and actions have placed the lives of the people he is supposed to serve in grave danger to advance his own interests. Further, he not only failed to stop or condemn the attack after the Capitol had been stormed but instead encouraged the mob by calling them patriots. This domestic terrorist attack resulted in at least five deaths, including a Capitol Police Officer, and more than a dozen police officers injured. The desecration of the Capitol building was also disgraceful and reprehensible.
For the good of the nation, so that we might end the current horror and prepare the way for binding up the nations wounds, we, as leaders of the member communions of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC), believe the time has come for the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, to resign his position immediately. If he is unwilling to resign, we urge you to exercise the options provided by our democratic system.
In addition, we recognize the need to hold responsible not only those who invaded the Capitol, but also those who supported and/or promoted the Presidents false claims about the election, or made their own false accusations.
We grieve for our country at this difficult time and continue to pray for the safety and security, and ultimately the healing of our nation. Holding those who have abused their power and participated in these immoral and tragic actions, in particular the President of the United States, is one step toward healing.' (4,412 posts)The list has many you would expect, but more interesting is to see which Christian churches are NOT members. And it goes without saying that there are no evangelical types of church in the list.

That came from a Bishop's wife on three different occasions. Gone two hours after the last event. House sold with in three hours and furniture in storage within seventy two hours.
Never again will we live in a Mormon Community. You can only tolerate hatred and lies just so much.
