Biden tells @CBSEveningNews he doesn't think Trump should receive intel briefings "because of his erratic behavior unrelated to the insurrection...What value is giving him an intelligence briefing? What impact does he have at all, other than he might slip and say something?"

(23,813 posts)Joe/State/CIA could have tested Trump's patriotism simply by feeding him believable, but wrong assessments.
If I were Biden, I would have said, "Sure! We fully believe that former Presidents should be kept in the loop for their wise knowledge, blah, blah" ......and then provide a completely different briefing to Trump then what Clinton, Bush, and Obama get.
Trump is in financial distress. I have no doubts that he would broker US intel for some economic reward. I doubt he has much of a choice.....I expect him to announce a trip to Moscow in the near future....to discuss the Moscow Trump Hotel .
Conversely, this would drive a stake in the Party of Trump Insurrections which is important to this country's immediate future.

(2,267 posts)On MSNBC they reported Biden had said he was would leave the decision up to the individual agency heads. Smart of him. They know Agent Orange is dangerous, so they can cut him off and Biden had clean hands: He doesnt look like he made a political decision.

(82,849 posts)I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the practice of giving former presidents access to classified briefings is a courtesy, not something required by law or regulation. Considering how gleefully Trump, McConnell, Ryan, Boehner, Bush, and Gingrich ran roughshod over customs and courtesies over the past 30 years, President Biden shouldn't feel any pangs of conscience for cutting Trump out of the intelligence loop.

(14,483 posts)There were many other rational reasons as well but they didn't care. They wanted a raging populist madman to get the votes.
That's the core issue the GOP needs to respond to, IMO......
