"Already the number of people who have been arrested, either by the FBI, Capitol police or local Washington DC officers has reached 235, spanning more than 40 states. As the investigation widens and deepens, the focus is tightening on anyone considered to have acted as a coordinator of the action in an attempt to take out the ringleaders.
The FBI has set up a special strike force of experienced federal prosecutors who have been given the express instruction to pursue aggressive sedition and conspiracy charges. So far at least 26 people have been charged with conspiracy or assault."
(snip)
"Once in the system, more serious charges could then be added as intelligence came in. That pattern of escalating charges can be seen in the cases of Nicholas DeCarlo from Texas and Nicholas Ochs from Hawaii.
Initially, the pair were accused of unlawful entry into federal property. But new conspiracy charges were added this week in which they are alleged to have planned out their travel across state lines, raised money to pay for it, and then made the trip to Washington DC in a premeditated attempt to obstruct the certification of Joe Biden as winner of the US presidential election."
Excellent article. More here....

(18,745 posts)Some of these arrests are months away yet. The criminals will be thinking they got away with it several months from now when theyll hear a knock at the door. I would bet they catch 95% of them. So much film and social media to go through.

(833 posts)that I find most hopeful. I think we'll see more of this.
In response to those who wish law enforcement had acted more quickly--as in the moment these criminals stepped out of the Capitol doors--I agree that would have been best. But we've seen how some in law enforcement agreed with the rioters and how the Pentagon handcuffed the National Guard. (Those people should also answer for what the did--or what they didn't do.) At least we're now seeing those who believe in the rule of law reasserting themselves. It will be interesting to follow this story. Twenty-six people charged isn't nearly enough. I expect more.

(1,910 posts)The statute of limitations is years. Plenty of time. Garland will make sure they are all prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Sure he is a fair man....but he is also human and the people these folks support were responsible for him not being on the Supreme Court. No way he lets a single one of them not face the largest possible sentence.

Felony convictions for every one of them; take their precious guns.

(32,351 posts)... at least for now. The FBI has a full plate, and many of those who got arrested are snitching on others. The feds are working their way up the pyramid. It's the planners and conspirators they're really after!
