We've received more useful guidance from @CDCgov in the past week than the prior 52 combined. And more coming on schools, what the vaccinated can and can't do, etc.

Nice to see that this national treasure was hibernating and not destroyed. @CDCDirector

voted for him. Know it or not, you may just have helped to save not only our nation, but possibly even mankind with your individual vote. We will never know for sure, but it’s not inconceivable that irreparable harm sufficient to be existentially damaging may have been avoided by the result of our 2020 election. Thank you and thank God for each and every one of you.

I no longer have a knot in my stomach when I watch or read the news each day. I never realized (until 2016)
how I took confidence in our leader for granted.

make smart policy, I'll remain skeptical.

You don't get to be a Trump mouthpiece one day and, the next, say "I've changed completely".

As for useful information in the past week, there are some decisions I do not agree with because they do not make sense. This is a red flag to me. I will continue to listen to trusted medical professionals rather than a corrupted government office until I'm satisfied that their past behavior has been rectified.

I suggest everyone do the same.

Somehow I often figure something out before the do or before they announce something or make recommendations.

Like after 2 shots if you are in contact with someone with Covid-19 you do NOT need to quarantine !!!! My word that is dumb. Pfizer and Moderna do not know for a fact how well their vaccines protect against the spread if you become infected.

7. It's smart to be skeptical but not doctrinaire

I wonder how you will decide whether “their behavior has been rectified” to your satisfaction. The thing is, there are more informed infectious disease medical professionals in the trenches at CDC than anywhere else in the country and maybe the world. I’m thinking it would be self destructive to reject everything they say just because the institution proved vulnerable to a malicious demagogue with a cult following, some of whom he installed at the head of CDC and worked to silence the competent.

In addition, it’s important to note that the Dr from UCSF didn’t say CDC had changed completely, only that he’s gotten more useful-to-him and UCSF from them in a Biden week than in a Trump year. I’m guessing that after Trump’s reign of terror at CDC, even he is applying prudent skeptical tests to what they say.

9. What you say is reasonable. What is NOT reasonable is magical thinking.

There are many reasons to be skeptical, one of which is their abysmal record of late. There is also the unreasonable expectation that a giant government agency magically changes overnight. Then, there is the fact that their own suggestions abut their rationale. For instance, saying schools can re-open without inoculation is terribly misleading, because they say (in the same breath) that to do so requires a full panoply of preventive measures that have NOT been taken, i.e. contact tracing. You can not do effective contact tracing when your viral numbers are still in the red or yellow. It doesn't work. Yet, they imply that by just making the effort everyone will be safe.

Maybe if I was not a teacher directly impacted by these yahoos for the past year, I would be more tolerant of their obvious equivocating. I just can't get there from where I stand today.

I remain hopeful that we can re-open schools next fall, assuming ALL adults are vaccinated.

5. The pro-vaccine messaging still isn't aggressive enough.

It's all CYA, exceptions, lowering expectations, and negativity (oh, but maybe vaccinated people can still transmit; maybe it doesn't work on the variants; there are cases where people still get sick; watch out for allergic reactions; on and ON, CYA this and that).

They need to cut the bullshit and tell people to go get vaccinated (unless their doctor says otherwise) and that, when they do it, their quality of life is going to improve DRAMATICALLY. There should be goddamned dancing in the streets over the vaccine, not hemming and hawing and 30%-40% of people declining when their turn comes. Vaccinated people should be excepted from most restrictions, as still forcing them to follow them is not worth the added inconvenience to our larger society and economy. That would help motivate people also.

JFC. Enough with this weak sauce bullshit.
