Come on DU. We are better than this.

Words matter and we are so much better than this. The C word and B and N word are all unacceptable. Lady G is unacceptable. Derogatory names for any group of people is in fact unacceptable. I won't mention them, you all know what I am talking about.

As I said, we are better than this.

Points can be made without the slurs.

There are two levels of it, but it is here. By two levels, I mean that there are some that reacted to the alleged news of what prostitutes called him. The second level is trying to use it as a pejorative for the orientation.

In the end both are wrong. When this all came out I posted a parody of Paul McCartney's "Sally G" to "Lady G." I am sure you can find it i you search. It wasn't meant as an anti-homosexual post, but I can see now how it might be conceived as such.

Ultimately, here the thing. we have plenty of Lindsey Graham criticism available to not ever worry about patrolling the "Lady G" waters.

...we shouldn't sully the reputations of LGTBQ individuals by invoking Graham's name. But I think it's fair to call him a hypocrite whose fear of being outed is far greater than his loyalty to his nation. And, perhaps more important, I really don't think Graham is afraid of being outed for his sexual identity as much as he's perhaps afraid of being outed for sexual behaviors that are shameful or illegal. The culture has come a long way in the last few decades on non-heterosexual identity, but not for sexual perversions. As much as the right-wing identifies with Qanon and as frequently as they project, one has to wonder.

but I'd imagine that at this point in his life, if he's just gay, he's got to be seeing things as "it is what it is".

Does he do well in getting votes in SC? I've never paid attention. Would he lose votes if he actually is gay, and came out?

Misgendering someone, using a name they have not agreed to be called, or using being female as an insult has no place on DU. Period. There are plenty of LGBT people on DU who have been telling you very clearly and repeatedly that using our lives as an insult is not, in any way, shape, or form in solidarity with us. It is offensive.

And it's not that hard to just not say something that people have told me offends them - it's much easier than arguing with them about whether their right to not feel attacked and demeaned is more important than my entitlement to be an asshole.
