Mitch McConnell backs Kentucky bill to change Senate vacancy rules (for ex., if McConnell dies), with governor no longer choosing replacement on his own and GOP picking candidates https://courier-journal.com/story/news/politics/ky-general-assembly/2021/02/15/mitch-mcconnell-backs-plan-change-how-kentucky-fills-u-s-senate-vacancies/6730656002/… via @courierjournal @morganwatkins26

There’s an alternative proposal by KY State Rep. Steven Rudy— to would leave the seat open until a new election takes place

If it is in the Kentucky State Constitution that the Governor has the SOLE duty to pick a replacement in the event of a death or resignation of a US Senator, that should settle the matter.

Butvyhen, Republicans are RUTHLESS and would do what they could to strike it down and repeal that amendment.

The governor's veto can be overridden by roll-call majority votes of both houses of the legislature; unlike in most states where a supermajority is required to override a veto.

I don't think he's a healthy turtle, but if they're addressing this now, then maybe he's got one foot on a banana peel and the other ... well, its about ready to falter.

It'd be nice to rid ourselves of Moscow Mitch. Although his leadership replacement will be just as selfish and evil.

While he anticipates his departure let's hope it's before the state changes their rules, and let the Democratic governor replace him with an intelligent Democrat.

From Day 1. Our Covid rate is way down from his measures, and they want to censure him for it.

I get daily updates from his office. He's doing a lot of good for this state. Hopefully he's still in office if McConnell retreats into his shell forever.

It will then go to an election for fill an unexpired term...(Not really a special election, but an election like Rafael Warnock's)
A primary will be held in 2022 and general election in November 2022.

There will be no need to have a new law, nor would there be a vacancy
